Does Brett Favre make the top 10 among the best NFL quarterbacks? Top 5?

I have seen a lot of Top 10 quarterback lists coming out lately, since the retirement of the Packers future hall-of-fame quarterback, Brett Favre. These lists seem to be coming out of the woodwork, each one listing their top picks for the best NFL quarterbacks of all time.

If I had a list, Brett Favre would be #1. Favre is not only the best quarterback of all time, he is also one of the best and most beloved athletes of all time in ANY sport. I realize that's a bold statement, but I really believe it and I think I can make a good case for it, even if you don't agree.

I can respect any top 10 list that places Favre at the number 5 spot or higher. You don't have to have him at number 1, like I do. I understand that people like different quarterbacks for different reasons. I understand there are some other really good candidates for #1. If you have Marino, Elway, Montana, or someone similar ahead of Favre, I can't fault you for that even if I don't happen to agree.

But what I DON'T understand are the lists that barely have Favre in their top 10. Some lists I saw had Favre near the bottom. One list had him at #7 and another at #9. One list I saw didn't even have Favre in the top 10. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!

Brett Favre holds every major passing record there is. For that reason alone, don't you HAVE to have Favre in your Top 5? The guys that don't have Favre in their top 5 are either intellectually dishonest, Favre haters, or just out of their minds!

Brett Favre's numbers alone earn him a top 5 spot in any list of the best NFL quarterbacks, but it's for other reasons that I have him at #1. I'm not alone, and I'm in good company.

In a March 4, 2008 Chicago Tribune article entitled, 'Urlacher: Favre best QB ever', Bears' pro bowl linebacker and NFL defensive player of the year in 2005, Brian Urlacher states, "He's No. 1. He has only one ring, but that doesn't matter. Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl, and some people consider him the best. I consider Brett Favre the best."

And in a Fox Sports article entitled, 'Favre is the Best in the Business', four time superbowl winner, hall of fame quarterback, and current football analyst, Terry Bradshaw said, "Brett Favre is the best quarterback I've ever seen play. I will say it again. I have documented it. I put it on the cover of a book. He's the best there ever was and that covers everybody."

So, whether you place Brett Favre in the #1 spot on your list of best NFL quarterbacks, or you place him just a bit lower, there are a few things that are indisputable. Brett Favre is number 1 in TD passes, number 1 in passing yards, number 1 in passing attempts, number 1 in passing completions, number 1 in wins by a starting QB, number 1 in consecutive starts, number 1 in lifetime jersey sales, number 1 in NFL MVP awards, and he is number 1 in the hearts and minds of many football fans. Brett Favre is loved, admired, and respected by many who love the game, fans and players, alike, and he will always be number 1 in my book.

That's one guy's opinion - worth what you paid for it!
