Brett Favre Retires - Who Is The New "Face" Of The Packers?

Brett Favre has been the "face" of the Green Bay Packers for the last 16 years. It's difficult for me, and many others, to even think about the Packers without Favre coming to mind.

Favre and the Packers are virtually synonymous. They go together like beer and brats. It could be said that never before has another football player meant so much to a team and played so big a role as Brett Favre did in Green Bay.

So, if Brett Favre WAS the Green Bay Packers, that poses an interesting question. Since Brett Favre retires, who is the new "face" of the Packers?

This is a question that has been raised a lot recently among Packer fans. And when the question arises, some great names usually come up. Driver, Barnett, and Tauscher are a few of the more common ones I hear.

But I have to respectfully disagree.

My answer to the question, "Who will be the new face of the Packers", is NO ONE - at least for now.

Donald Driver is my favorite player on the Packers right now, but I don't think you could take him or any other player on the team and call them the new "face" of the Packers.

We have some great players and we have some up-and-comers with a ton of potential, but I think there's a difference between a good player or even a dominate player and someone you could call the "face" of a franchise. I just don't think one exists outside of Favre right now for the Pack.

If someone is the "face" of a franchise, I think it's obvious. There's little room for dispute or differing opinions. It's just a fact, like it or not. I'm not sure that such a person is voted into that position by others. I think they earn it. They step up into the position and they claim it. They earn it through leadership, performance, and domination. They don't earn it by being good or even being great. They earn it by being special - something way above and beyond the norm.

Brett Favre was and is special. I think people like him are few and far between. When the next one comes along, we'll know it. Everyone will know it. But for now, I think it's too early to identify someone else as the new "face" of the Green Bay Packers.

Then again, Brett Favre will always be the "face" of the Green Bay Packers for me - retired or not!
